The original log cabin portion of Log Haven was built by 1910, with an addition completed by 1912. The two women doctors who owned the property were from the San Francisco Bay Area and purchased the property in 1906, the same year the devastating San Francisco earthquake and fire changed the city forever.
One of the most unusual houses in Carmel is known as the Door House. It was built entirely from doors salvaged after the 1906 fire.
Since the doors in Log Haven are such a fascinating collection of mismatched styles, I wonder if they might have used salvaged doors from a similar source when they built Log Haven.
I have no way of knowing for certain, but given the timing, it’s an intriguing possibility.
If only these old doors could talk.
Only a few of the doors are shown.
Most of the doors have the original hardware.
